A signed protocol on cooperation between the best tourist villages in the world, Mokra Gora and Solčava
1. November 2022.

After a series of activities, which were carried out in the previous period in the Regional Center “Duboko”, the Educational Center for Municipal Waste Management, the first of its kind in Serbia, was opened today.
Expressing great satisfaction and gratitude to the donors, the director of the Regional Center for Waste Management “Duboko” Momir Milovanović, pointed out that this is a space intended for the education of the youngest fellow citizens, but also a space for all Associations and individuals who deal with environmental protection.

“Through the previous projects we implemented, we raised our capacities and wanted to prove that in Serbia and in our district, primary selection at the place of origin can work. In this regard, we have made significant progress and I hope that by the beginning of next year we will cover 80 percent of the territory of the city of Užice with the primary selection. We went a step further, aware of how important education is in establishing a quality waste management system, so thanks to UNDP and funds in the amount of 25,000 dollars, we built and opened an Educational Center. We want children from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to come here, as well as students from all faculties in Serbia whose programs have departments for environmental protection. Of course, the space is intended for all associations and individuals dealing with this topic”.

Anna Seke from UNDP is satisfied with the results of the joint project of UNDP, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Swiss SEKO program.
“We are glad that the company “Duboko” has successfully implemented this project, the main goal of which is to support new models of municipal waste management and education programs in that area in different ways. We already lack certain personnel who will deal with that topic in the future, so we hope that the majority of pupils and students will come to this educational center”.

During the summer months, the facility with a capacity of 50 places will be open, and in the following period, transparent foil will be purchased and installed so that it can be used throughout the year.
In “Duboko”, they emphasize that they want to progress further, so with that goal, a presentation of the most modern machines for waste treatment was held.
One of them is a machine for pressing and baling waste, which they plan to acquire and use in this company. According to director Milovanović, this would free up landfill space to a considerable extent, and on the other hand, pressed waste would go to thermal power plants and cement plants. In the Regional Center for Waste Management “Duboko” they want to be the first in Serbia in this regard as well.
